I don’t know about you but I am obsessed with boy meets girl preppy chic style. If I was rich I would dress head to toe in the perfectly preppy and androgynous line Boy By Band of Outsiders. Its an offset of the men’s fashion line Band of Outsiders. I have recommended their shirts to the guy readers of Clareification but now i urge you ladies out there to take a look at the girls collection!
This line is the most perfect blend of preppy and sexy. Now when sporting this way of dressing us ladies must be careful. Yes our clothing can be menswear inspired but we don’t want to look like cross dressers do we!? You must keep your heels high and at least one item of clothing should be form fitting. My outfit today is a perfect example of how to get the preppy boy/girl balance right; I am wearing a blue and white striped button down shirt (over sized and baggy, collar popped, sleeves artfully rolled), tucked into a white , tight cotton high waisted mini skirt, on my feet I sport a pair of tan leather lace up heels and on my wrist? a gold mens watch.
Please peruse these pics of the Boy by Band of Outsiders current collection and give this look a go!!email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about anything to do with style!

Wow I really do like my French ladies don’t I?! Francoise is an iconic french singer/actress whose timeless style has always caught my attention…feast your eyes on some her best outfits…J’adore!!!
C’mon kids you know i LOVE my stripes! (i just treated myself to a crisp new APC striped T…classic fashion heaven)
Have you bought your classic trench yet?!
Look at Francoises’ PERFECT amount of accessories! A couple of delicate necklaces and a hat only she could pull off..Look at that face!!!Once again I am turning green…why does this always happen to me?

Sorry I have been MIA! Work is getting in the way but i promise i haven’t forgotton about ‘Clareification!’ I have not had my eyes closed whilst working..i have spotted a few fabulous fashion moments and here they are…ill be back soon! x x
Here is Michelle ‘ma belle’ Williams again! Love the assymetric/white/grecian/futuristic dress! eclectic perfection…
Now I’m normally not one for head to toe labels but when it comes to being dressed head to toe in 3.1 Phillip Lim, I’ll make an exception. The usually over dressed and accessorized young actress Shenae Grimes looks truly angelic and ballerina like in this neutral top/skirt combo.
It seems Blake Lively’s relocation to NY for Gossip Girl is seriously rubbing off on her style sense, here she looks sophisticated and chic in a way that only Manhattanites can. Her glossy hair, immaculate maquillage and newly found fashionista status make her a real star in the making…

Ok so the pic of Vicky B in the faux tanning post got me thinking about one of my worst fashion/aesthetic crimes…BREAST IMPLANTS!!
Ladies unless you have a chest that resembles a man’s, or you need reconstructive surgery, DON’T DO IT. I assure you, clothing looks way more chic with a small bust and there is nothing worst than two artificial silicone mounds protruding from a woman’s chest. Its instantly noticeable, always looks fake (I can spot them a mile off) and most men (with taste) do not like the way they feel/look at all!
Girls with small chests, instead of feeling dissatisfied with your petite bosoms, embrace them. There are so many more clothes you can wear without looking slutty or cheap.
Go strapless, go bra less (see Keira) wear one shoulder tops, plunging necklines (see Natalie Portman) and double breasted blazers! Do it do it! Do it for me because my boobs are too cumbersome for all of these clothing choices!!

There are some fashion moments that make me stop and take notice. When I saw this pic of K-BO and C-SEV (Kate Bosworth and Chloe Sevigny; eat your heart out Perez!) I just could not stop staring. Look at Chloe’s fabulous white blazer paired with the silky shorts. I love how she flashes her bra to add some serious sexiness to her menswear inspired outfit. Kate’s outfit is such a contrast to Chloe’s discreetly androgynous look, she looks like a feminine fashion fairy in her ethereal, gauzy Chloe skirt and cropped silk tank. Heavenly.
Emma Watson is such an English rose in this vintage Ossie Clark maxi dress. I love how feminine and tasteful this particular look is. Rather than going for the option of slapping on the make-up and baring lots of skin a la Megan Fox, Emma keeps her look natural and fresh. As a Brit I feel very proud!!!!

This burgeoning Australian actress has been impressing me with her off duty ‘hippie chic’ (see above) and her more polished red carpet looks. Her natural beauty, love of short hemlines and ease in front of the camera makes her a serious style icon contender. Take a look at some of her most recent successful outfits!
This is a true A List moment, Isabel is able to sport curls, diamonds and sky high metallic heels yet she still look natural and chic. I’m jealous!
This look I absolutely adore! Its it simplicity that made me take notice, the concept is so classic ‘a shift and heels’ but the color and cut of the dress and her hair and make up is truly modern.
Head to toe in Chanel, Isabel shows off her teeny tiny waist. I love her fashion forward make-up, bare clean skin with a dark cherry lip. She is definitely one to keep your eye on, I know I will be…

I have recently been paying extra special attention to a few new faces in the acting world due to their fabulous fashion choices and equally stunning looks. I wanted to point them out as I think they have huge potential in becoming style icons of their own!
Now I may be a little biased here as I work with this particular actress but I really do think that Rachelle Lefevre has an incredibly strong aesthetic and wears clothes so very well. She absolutely has her own sense of style in her everyday life and I have had the pleasure of working with her for some publicity events for her movie Twilight. Take a look at some of her best fashion moments.
Her red carpet moment above is a young fresh look that encapsulates two of this seasons biggest trends, nude tones and diamonds! Rachelle looks contemporary yet soooo sophis. I’m proud of this look!
Here is Rachelle sporting her off duty uniform of skinny ripped jeans and flats paired with super fine thin knits (think cashmere and merino) and her ever faithful scarf. This look works so well as its classic but she keeps it fashion forward by adding elements such as the studded flats and metallic scarf. Love it
At a TWILIGHT press event I dressed Rachelle in a fabulous Lauren Moffatt minidress paired with the must have white tux blazer. (Styling note: when you wear your tux jacket, push the sleeves up a la Rachelle, it adds a laissez-faire element to your look!)

I truly believe that when it comes to fashion dos and don’ts (and I risk alienating a few readers here) TATOO’S are a big fat DON’T. Sure butterflies are pretty and dragons are dramatic, and you may think tat’s make you appear young, non conformist and quirky, but will you really want to sport them on your body when you are in your late 50’s? I don’t think so! The only other alternative is to spend a fortune on having them removed.
Some rebellious celeb’s such as Peaches Geldof and Amy Winehouse (see pics above) have gone waaayyyy too far. I think they look messy and over adorned. How can any outfit they wear ever look classic and chic with those scribbles all over their bodies? Ladies if you must get a tattoo (and I would really rather you didn’t!) get a tiny one in a place that can be easily concealed as tattoos really do not suit every occasion. Over and out!

This weekend Lindsay Lohan (I fear she is going to come up a lot in the next few ‘don’t’ posts) launched her new fake tan line in the classy setting of the MGM hotel in Vegas. As I looked at the photographs of her ‘partying’ alongside her tacky pals with her blotchy faux tan, it truly terrified me that the worlds obsession with tanned skin will continue to rise until we are all a deep shade of orange.
I mentioned in my first ever post of CLAREIFICATION the orange tones that surrounded me as I sunbathed at the Roosevelt Hotel pool. And I wasn’t talking about peoples bikini’s, I was talking about their skin. Over tan skin, both faux and real is reaching epidemic status in LA. Blotchy fake tans and leathery sun beds tans are not a good look people! Vicky Beckham, Lindsay and Rachel Zoe should be ashamed of themselves for supporting and encouraging this awful aesthetic. If they are not careful they are going to look like raisins and prunes very soon..DREADFUL!
Of course it is unavoidable for us here in LA to avoid the sun completely, and I’ll admit I like a lightly sun kissed look (at least spf15 everyday, I highly recommend Neutrogena’s line) but the Orangina look is a big NO NO!

OK kids, now I have talked a lot about ‘Fashion Do’s’ what to buy, who to be inspired by, which trends to follow, but now I am going to advise you on what looks to avoid. I will bring attention to trends that I think are a crime and fashion nightmares that I have spotted on the red carpet. Celebrities, non celebrities, I am going to come after all of you. You have been warned!
My first fashion don’t is over accessorizing. I cringe when a perfectly decent outfit is ruined by too many accoutrements. It is a trend that is rife in LA. Girls are piling on cheap Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters fedoras, sunglasses, necklaces, head bands, scarves, bracelets and rings on to their tiny bodies ALL AT ONCE. It’s surprising that they remain upright due to the weight of it all! Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton are the predominant celebrity leaders of this trend (no coincidence they are all ex clients of the over accessorized stylist Rachel Zoe). Girls! Its too much! its too fussy and cluttered! You need to be reminded of Coco Chanel’s infamous saying:
‘When you’re done dressing, you should look in the mirror and take one thing off before you leave the house’
