SUMMER IN LA: The Sun is out, time to bare all or hide inside?!
Summertime in Los Angeles is a nerve wracking time….as I sit with my size 0 actress girlfriend/client by the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel I survey the surrounding scenery, my prying eyes thankfully hidden behind my vintage Rayban Wayfarers (thanks Mum!) I observe oily over tanned women in various states of undress, badly constructed boob jobs, red faces and string bikinis in acid tones…I sport a retro print modest bikini picked up at H&M last summer (hurrah to me- only $19.99! I still rejoice to this day!) It’s a bargain to be proud of but my ‘LA SHINY GLAM FACTOR’ is low, the bikini is brown and covers rather a lot of skin…do I feel dejected? No, I feel tasteful! Regardless of my lack of male attention!
I spy one girl amongst the throng of neon and shiny boob jobs…she is the epitome of beachy/poolside perfection…she sports a simple classic black bikini..no strings present. Her brown hair (natural color of course!) is wavy, silky and loose. She wears a large black brimmed hat reminiscent of Audrey in ‘My Fair Lady’ (the Ascot scene-DUH!) to protect her delicate porcelain skin and maintain her youthful looks…she stands out ladies…she sends a message to us all…SIMPLICITY IS KEY…if in doubt about the current state of your tummy sport a sexy one piece, if you feel proud to display what you have on offer don’t go overboard, grab a tasteful two piece in muted tones. Impress yourself not the muscle men at the pool. Look after your skin (SPF 30 at the very least! Wrinkles and leathery skin not a good look kids!) and keep it classic, who wants to compete with the boob-job tan girls anyway!!
If you are still in doubt about what I am suggesting here are some pool/beach looks to inspire the classy girl that lurks inside all of us! (BIG TIP-these looks were found at www.urbanoutfitters.com. Hands up the best selection of affordable swimwear online)
